Your 3 in 1 web design, development and webmaster services questions answered

2018-12-13, by: Alessandra Burroughs

3 in 1 web design, development and webmaster services provides ongoing website design and development solutions to small companies in need of a web developer.

I will take care of your business' website design, development and maintenance needs as remote in-house developer + webmaster.

With over 10 years of experience in Web Design, Development and Project Management, I translate those skills into being the (remote)in-house person for website maintenance, updates, optimization and webmaster tasks in general.

Here are the answers to the most common questions about this service:

Q. Who is this for?

Businesses based in Center or North of Europe, UK, US, Canada or Australia that don't have an in-house developer, and could use some help to take care of your website updates but not enough work volume to justify a full-time hire.

Q. Why not companies that already have a developer?

A. That's the profile of companies that can benefit most from hiring a part-time web designer/developer/webmaster. If the company already has a full-time developer, it makes more sense for them hiring someone that will only do design, or another full-time dev when they need a development team.

Q. What's the duration of the hire?

A. Usually for 1 year, with yearly renewal. 6 months is the minimum period for hire. You can cancel it after the first month if you find that`s not for you ( although already worked hours are not refundable ).

Q. Do you charge for Project Management tasks?

A. No. Those are non-billable hours. Not only with this service, but also all other web design services I offer. Project Management tasks have always been part of my freelance routine as the invisible glue that allows me to deliver projects within clients' budget nad in a timely manner as a solo freelancer. I have an organized workflow in place so I can spend less time on those tasks and more on actually designing and coding.

Q. How much of each tasks will you do?

A. At least 50% of the tasks to be done must be development and/or webmaster tasks. This service solves the need of small to medium companies that need those professionals for ongoing tasks, but don't have enough workload for full-time hires.

Q. How is this service different from webssite maintenance?

A. This service includes website maintenance too, but is not restricted to it; It can also include development of new website areas and complex update tasks that you don't find included with regular maintenance plans.

Besisdes the website tasks, supporting tasks such as online marketing graphic materials, such as adds, newsletters, banners, etc can be included, granted that they don't exceed the amount of development tasks each month.

Q. Why should I prefer an ongoing developer than hiring a freelance on a per task basis?

A. It saves you the time and trouble of searching for and selecting a good freelance developer you can trust.

Usually quality freelancers don't take on small jobs that only take a few hours to complete.

It's not not worth their and their client's time, since the time spent on selection and negociation process exceeds the worked hours.

It's the ideal solution to bulk those small tasks in a ongoing sevice pack.

Q. How redesigns projects and new website areas done with this service?

A. Bigger changes like those are handled like a regular fixed rate web design project, but allocated within your hired monthly hours.

A timeline with project phases will be created, as in a per project contract. If you also need other small tasks done regularly, the hours spent on those will be set apart from the project's timline.

This service is interesting for you if you need major changes on your website, but need to split them to be done within a longer timeframe due to restricted budget or other reasons.

Or you have a mix of small and bigger changes and tasks to be done on your website and online channels.

Q. Do I need to always be coming with new things to do on my website?

A. No. It's natural that initially you will have a list of things you'd like to implement, but run out of requests as those are implemented. I'll be proatively suggesting what needs improvement on your website for better User Experience(UX), based on your webssite performance, target audience and business goals.

Q. What are some of the tasks you will do for me?

A. Webmaster tasks; Setting up analytics account, submitting sitemap to search engines, etc; On-page SEO optimization; Social Media Integration; Domain register and set up; Email newsletters; Back-end and front coding; creation and updating of databases.

Q. What activities are not included with this service?

A. Copywriting and virtual assistant tasks, such as posting and commenting on your social media channels.

Although I won't write your website copy for you, I have extensive experience with communications for the web, so I can format and edit your texts to work better on your web pages, as well as providing some guidance of what information to include should you need it, as long as it's in English language.

Q. What tech stack do you use?

A. I work mainly with PHP and relational databases for back-end. HTML, CSS and Javascript for fron-end. With and without the use of frameworks.

Any technical requirement your website may have must be evaluated on a case by case basis, so we can see if this will be a good fit.

If you have any question regarding your tech sack, please reach out.

Q. How many hours do you recommend per month?

A. That will depend on your company's need and the amount of tasks you'll need done.

2 days(16 hours) per month is suitable for most small business needs. The minimal hire is 1 day(8 hours) per month.

E-commerce businesses usually demand more hours.

And if you also have major changes that require much work and want it completed within faster time span, it's also advisable that you hire more hours.
