Bring big results to your business' online presence with these website improvements to make before the new year arrives

Those small tasks done periodically can have a positive impact on your website's performance. We put together of simple website improvements to make before the new year so you can start off on the right foot in 2019.

Delete broken links

Your old pages and pages may have external links that have changed link path or which content is longer available online. This can be frustrating to your readers and pass the idea that your own content is outdated. Remove the links that no longer lead anywhere.

Update/revamp old posts

Adding new relevant information updates and rich media to your old posts not only keep them interesting but also help your content rank better on search engines' results.

Delete old content

Some of your content pieces can become outdated beyond update. The possible reasons can be that the main topic of article became irrelevant, it promotes a service or product that you no longer offer or doesn't aligns with business new directions.

If you've got a good flow of traffic coming from that article or landing page you can redirect the link to a new URL of your choice.

In case you don't redirect it, people that click on your old link will be redirected to your 404 'page not found' error page which is not a necessarily a bad thing if you have this page configured to explain to your audience that the link no longer exists and offering alternatives places to go on your website or a a search option.

Check for duplicate content

Search ranks value original content and penalize copies. If you have the same text repeated in different places of your website or across different sites it's recommended that you scan your website and delete content that appears duplicate or in case you need to keep it you can discourage search engines from indexing that page.

Once you've done that your website is ready to start the New Year in great shape!

Remember to periodically perform these tasks along with the other regular maintenance actions and you're set for success.
